Frequently asked questions.

What are the minimum educational requirements to apply for a license in Canada for Internationally
Educated Nurses?
The minimum requirement is for you to hold a diploma or degree in your home country. For example, an Indian
IEN should have either a GNM (General Nursing and Midwife Diploma) or a BSC (Bachelor in Science) in
Nursing to get started in Canada as these are the two programs recognized by Canada.
Can a GNM diploma holder become a Registered Nurse in Canada?
Yes! Most Canadian provinces and the USA accept GNM diploma holders.

What are the steps to get a license to practice as a nurse in Canada for IENs?
1. Get an education or academic assessment done by NNAS (or other recognized bodies).
2. Fulfill the English Proficiency Requirement.
3. Either challenge the Nursing Assessment Exams (NCAS/OSCE/IENCAP) or gain the additional education
needed in order to fulfill the gaps in your academic assessment.
4. Pass the NCLEX exam.

Do these licensing steps change?
Yes, these steps do occasionally change and they can differ from province to province. They go through
upgrades and changes as needed. We stay up to date with the policies so you’re always equipped with the
strategies you need to become a RN.

How can I meet the English Proficiency Requirement?
The English Proficiency can be fulfilled by writing either IELTS AC or CELBAN. These requirements vary from
province to province, as some provinces have other ways to meet language proficiency apart from IELTS or
CELBAN.

Is there an age limit?
No age limit! As long as you are physically and mentally healthy enough to become a nurse, you are welcome
to take our courses.

Is the USA or Australia application beneficial for me?
It depends on a case to case basis, but USA and Australia applications along with Canadian applications can
fast track the process.
