What Are the New CRNA Currency of Practice Requirements?
As of October 1, 2024, to qualify for RN registration in Alberta, you must meet one of the following currency of practice criteria within the last five years of your application:

ORCompleted at least 450 hours of nursing practice within the last 2 years,
OR

OR
Completed the Registered Nurses Canadian Competence Assessment Program (RNCCAP, formerly ARNAP) with results indicating competence to practise as an RN,
OR

Important:
If you are applying under substantial equivalence (the pathway most IENs use), these requirements apply to you. The CRNA has also revised its English language proficiency rules, and the NCLEX-RN is no longer accepted as proof of currency of practice or English proficiency for RNs.
